Second PUC exams kick off from Thursday, no hijab allowed in exam halls

BENGALURU: The PUC II examinations will start from Thursday (March 9) and will be conclude on March 29. The Karnataka School Examination and Evaluation Board has taken all the necessary measures in all districts for the smooth conduct of the exams and to curb irregularities and malpractices.

This year, 7,27,387 students have registered to write the examination and 1,109 examinations centres have been set up across the state. One police personnel will be deployed at each exam centre and CCTV cameras have been installed to prevent malpractice. The police will also provide security to vehicles transporting question papers. Electronic devices such as mobile phones, TAN generators, smartwatches are banned inside the exam hall. Howver, the Education Department has given permission to carry water bottles and sanitisers.

Primary Education Minister B C Nagesh said wearing hijab is strictly banned inside the exam centres.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister B C Nagesh said students should reach the exam center half an hour earlier and added that the exams will be student-friendly. This year, there has been a slight change in the question paper pattern and there will be multiple choice questions for 20 marks (one mark for each question). The pattern will be followed in the coming years also, he said.

He further added, “Like last year, students will not be allowed to write the exam wearing a hijab. If they come wearing a hijab, they won’t be allowed to write the exam. Hijab is not a part of the uniform. The Karnataka High Court has already upheld the government order in this regard”, he noted.
