BENGALURU: Heading to school and back home has become a hellish experience for schoolchildren, all thanks to the traffic in the city. In the last two years, school journey time has increased by as much as 22 per cent, according to a study.
Schoolchildren travelling to school and back in the SH-35 corridor face daily traffic trouble and are spending as much as 112 minutes on road. This was revealed by a survey conducted by Inventure Academy. In the last two years, children have lost one whole term on the roads, as per the findings.
Due to traffic jam, children are losing one whole school term on the roads every two years. About 374 hours per year goes is spent on the roads, which is equal to 53 school days. Due to traffic, the speed of school buses is less than walking speed. This is especially so for vehicle users in Varthur, Gunjur, Kadubeesanahalli and Dommasandra areas.
