BENGALURU: Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has announced a new compensation scheme for families of victims who die in accidents involving BMTC and KSRTC buses. Earlier, families had to approach the courts to get compensation, but now they can receive it directly.
The new scheme offers compensation of Rs 10 lakh to families of victims including pedestrians and other vehicle susers who die in accidents involving BMTC and KSRTC buses. One the other hand, compensation of Rs 1 crore will be given to families of drivers and conductors who die on duty.
Earlier, the government used to give compensation of only Rs 25,000 to deaths of pedestrians and vehicle users and now 3 lakh for bus drivers and conductors. Many innocent people lost their lives and their family members due to the negligence of KSRTC and BMTC drivers.
Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that the decision was taken to relieve families from doing the rounds of courts for 5-10 years to receive compensation. He also appealed to the drivers to be careful and prevent road accidents.
The decision is expected to bring some relief to the families of victims who have been struggling to receive compensation. Earlier, many families had to approach the court and wait for years to receive compensation, but now they can receive it directly.
