BENGALURU: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath on Tuesday said that repair and maintenance work on all the underpasses in the city will be completed in 15 days.

Addressing media persons, Giri Nath said the Palike engineer-in-chief B S Prahalad had submitted a survey report on Monday, following the death of an Infosys employee in the flooded KR Circle underpass on Sunday.

“There are 53 underpasses and 18 railway underbridges and some of these will have to be completely closed to take up repair work. At some places, we have to make arrangements so that water from adjoining roads do not enter the underpasses. All this will be completed in 15 days”, he said.

The BBMP chief commissioner said work has been taken up on an experimental basis at the KR Circle underpass and added that the Le Meredian underpass also needs repair. Depending on the rain, steps will be taken to close the underpasses and undertake repair work, he added.

The Le Meredian underpass poses a problem for motorists whenever it rains.

Meanwhile, an internal report of the BBMP on the death caused at the KR Circle underpass due to flooding has absolved the civic agency of any blame. The report says that due to sudden strong winds, tree leaves were blown away and branches broken which affected the flow of water in the drains.
