Speaking after inaugurating a 375 mt stretch of road, the CM said, “White-topping of roads in heavy traffic density areas had become a matter of concern. And wherever white-topping has been done, there is also the question of damage to utilities. Rapid road is a new technology, but we have to see how cost-effective it is, the quality and load-bearing capacity. I have sought a report on these aspects and only after going through all the aspects will we decide on taking up rapid roads in other places in the city”.

The CM said a report has been sought on the cost-effectiveness of the rapid road technology.

The rapid road technology uses concrete slabs to white-top roads. While regular white-topping work takes about a month for a 1-km distance, the same can be completed in five days with the new technology. However, the cost of laying rapid roads is higher and the CM said the cost has to be brought down to make it cost-effective.
