Prices of flowers and fruits shoot up on account of Ayudha Puja and Vijaya Dashami celebrations

BENGALURU: With Ayudha Puja celebration today and Vijaya Dashami on Tuesday, there is huge demand for fruits, flowers and vegetables. People flocked to the market to purchase flowers, a variety of fruits, and essential items for the festival. The major popular markets in the city including K R Market, Malleswaram, Jayanagar, Basavanagudi, Madivala were overcrowded early in the morning.

Despite of the increase in prices on fruits, flowers, decoration items, people are thronging markets. There was a great demand for ashgourd and banana stalks for Ayudha Puja today. Compared to last week, the price of flowers and fruits has doubled. In some places, flower sellers are demanding triple the actual price.

The prices of Jasmine was Rs 1,200 per kg, chrysanthemum Rs 300 pr kg, rose Rs 200, Kanakambara Rs 1,300, and another type of jasmine Rs 1,000. Meanwhile, the prices of fruits have also gone up. The price of yelakki bananas is Rs 100 per kg, pineapple Rs 70 per kg, pomegranate Rs 150 and apple Rs 180 per kg.

The rise in prices, however, has not damepned the festival cheer and people are paying higher prices for the festival essentials.
