Pregnant women will have to undergo rapid antigen tests at the BBMP's referral hospitals.

BENGALURU: While the authorities are taking all precautions to guard against the spread of Covid1-9, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to test pregnant women who are due for delivery at its hospitals.

A checklist has been drawn up for testing of pregnant women at the 13 referral hospitals of the BBMP. Accordingly, pregnant women showing any symptoms and those who need to be shifted to the operation theatre for a Cesarean section operation will be mandatorily tested for Covid-19.

Palike Special Commissioner (Health) Thrilok Chandra said, “We have been taking precautions against Covid at the referral hospitals. Tests are also conducted before shifting a person to the operation theatre”.

Each of the referral hospitals conduct about 100 deliveries every day. If the rapid antigen test helps detect Covid-19, it will be easier to curb its spread, the Palike feels.
