BENGALURU: Prajwal Revanna, who is in jail after his conviction in a rape case, watched the final rites of his grandmother Chennamma, held at their hometown Holenarsipur, through video conference on Monday.

Prajwal Revanna had submitted a request to the Superintendent of Parappana Agrahara Jail, the officer Anshu Kumar told Public TV. Chennamma, the wife of former PM H D Deve Gowda passed away on Saturday at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru after suffering from lung infections.

Convict Prajwal Revanna had not even filed any petition in court so far. To file a petition in court, the convict must have served at least two years of sentence. Since it is a rape case, there were doubts whether the court will grant permission.

Prajwal was advised not to apply for parole as per his father H D Revanna’s instructions, as he is in jail for a rape case. His presence could create unrest during the cremation of Chennamma, so he was told not to file any application, sources said.
