BENGALURU: Power consumers are likely to face the heat of another tariff hike as electricity rates are expected to rise by 45-50 paise per unit in the name of Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPCA) charges.

This charge is levied on the basis of electricity purchase cost and fluctuates according to changes in the purchase cost. In last two months, consumers got relief through reduction of 34 paise and 24 paise per unit. Now, there is a possibility of power tariff hike again, and consumers’ electricity bill amount may increase.

When electricity purchase cost increases, there is additional charge, and when the cost decreases, the reduction is seen in the electricity bills. Further, it is expected that the charge will decrease again in November-December, as per Bescom sources.
