BENGALURU: Power consumers are likely to face the heat of a hike in electricity tariff again as the power utility Bescom plans to increase rates by 45-50 paise per unit as Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPCA) charges.
This charge is levied on the basis of electricity purchase cost which fluctuates according to changes in the purchase cost. In the last two months, consumers got some relief through reduction of 34 paise and 24 paise per unit. Now, there is a possibility of charges being hiked again, and consumers’ electricity bill amount may increase.

When electricity purchase cost increases, an additional charge is levied and when the cost decreases, it is reflected in the electricity bill. Further, it is expected that the tariff will decrease again in November-December, according to Bescom sources.
