Police to act against pubs accommodating more than capacity

BENGALURU: The spike in coronavirus cases is likely to have some impact on New Year celebrations. The city police are taking strict action against pubs and bars accommodating more than capacity.

People are eager to welcome the New Year 2024 and celebrate in grand manner, but Covid-19 cases are increasing day by day. As a consequence, hosting parties and celebrations in pubs are likely to be affected.

Earlier, there were no such rules enforced by the police department in related to accommodating people in pubs. But this year end, pubs have been strictly warned to maintain patrons as per capacity. Seats in pubs should be allowed only to reserved customers. Police sources said that they at a meeting with pub managements, the owners were warned that if they allow more people in order to get more business, legal action will be taken.

Large crowds usually descend for New Year parties as celebrities visit some of the prestigious pubs. So the pub owners or managers of pubs have been told to compulsorily inform the jurisdictional police station ahead of any such events.

Partygoers flock popular pubs for the New Year and hence, the police have instructed pubs to ensure that they take measures to control crowds by appointing additional private security guards.
