SHIVAMOGGA: The police on Thursday morning shot at a man who had murdered his grandmother on Wednesday evening after he tried to attack them when they went to arrest him, at Vajpayee Layout on the outskirts of Shivamogga.
Kishore (28) was shot in the leg by after he attack police constable Ganesh. The Doddapete police inspector Sathyanarayana immediately fired warning shots in the air but as Kishore did not heed, police fired at his leg and arrested him. Kishore was shifted to McGann Hospital while police constable Ganesh admitted to a private hospital. A case has been registered at Tunganagar police station.

Accused Kishore had murdered his grandmother on Wednesday evening over a dispute about selling ganja. He killed his grandmother Susheelamma by dropping a stone on her head at their house at Anand Rao Layout, Shivamogga city. He had cases of ganja peddling and ganja consumption registered against him previously.
Police Superintendent Nikhil B had formed two separate teams to arrest accused Kishore. The SP visited McGann Hospital and inquired at the jail ward where injured Kishore was kept. He also obtained information from officers regarding the incident.

Speaking at McGann Hospital, the SP said, “Police firing took place in Tunganagar police station limits. Doddapete police had gone to arrest Kishore, the accused in yesterday’s murder case. He attacked our staff with a machete when they went to arrest him. The inspector immediately fired in the air and warned him. Then they fired at Kishore’s left leg and arrested him. We have shifted the accused to McGann. There is no danger to life. Our staff Ganesh was attacked with a machete, but he has escaped danger to life”.
