CHIKKABALLAPUR: Two of the accused in the double murder case during a cricket tournament at Dedda Belavangala in Doddaballapur district were apprehended after a shootout when they were attempting to flee on Sunday. The police have managed to arrest two people, including the main accused, within 48 hours of the crime.
The police opened fire at the main accused Vinay and another accused Trimurthy when they attempted to escape near a railway cross near Doddaballapur town and taken into custody early on Sunday morning.
The two accused are undergoing treatment in a government hospital. The Dodda Belavangala Police Inspector Harish opened fire at the accused.
According to Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi, “Four police teams had been formed under the Deputy SP of Doddaballapur to conduct the investigation. On Saturday night, one of the accused contacted his friend on phone for asking money. While on night patrol, Police Inspector Harish got confirmed information about the money transfer and kept the Doddaballapaur police in the loop”.
The SP further said, “Based on the information, the police surrounded the accused from all four sides around 4.15 am near the Doddaballapur railway gate. But the accused tried to flee and, in their attempt, attacked with constables Sunil Basagi and Kara Hussain with a machete and pelted stones. The police team first warned the accused by firing in the air. When the accused did not surrender, the police opened fire for self protection”.
To a query, the SP said, “The two are the prime accused in the murder case. As per the preliminary investigation, they went to Mantralaya after the murdering two youths. Some of the other accused in the case are still absconding. The police teams are on the lookout for them”.
