CHIKKAMAGALUR: The police opened fire at a history-sheeter after he attacked a constable with the machete when a police team had gone to his house to serve a court summons, on Monday. The shootout occurred at Magalu village near Balehonnur in NR Pura taluk.

Poornesh, who is wanted in eight cases since 2012, had been evading court summons by not being present at home, spending the nights in forests and coffee estates, or on huge trees.

Following this, the police opened fire, injuring the history-sheeter in the right leg. He was then admitted to the district hospital in Chikkamagalur.
