MYSURU: The city police have denied permission for the Mahisha Dasara and Chalo Chamundi Betta programmes.

The Mahisha Dasara celebration committee had called for the celebration of Mahisha Dasara on October 13. It was decided to go to Chamundi Hill and launch Mahisha Dasara by paying floral tributes to the statue of Mahishasura. Earlier, MP Pratap Simha had opposed Mahisha Dasara.

On the same day, a ‘Chalo Chamundi Betta’ was planned to oppose the Mahisha Dasara celebration. The BJP had called for this Chalo Chamundi Betta programme under the leadership of Pratap Simha.

The organisers of the two programmes had sought police permission, but the police have refused to grant permission for both programmes in order to maintain peace and order in the city. Mysore City Police Commissioner Ramesh said the programmes may disrupt peace, law and order and therefore, permission was denied for the two events.
