The main road in Ittamadu caved in near Maruthi Nagar.

BENGALURU: In the third such instance in recent days, a part of the Ittamadu Main Road caved in, causing a gaping hole, near Maruthi Nagar on Friday.

The cave-in, about 5 feet long, occurred right next to the storm water drain, hampering easy movement of traffic. Motorists vented their ire at BWSSB and BBMP officials saying that the part of the road had been sinking for the last one month, but none of the officials bothered to act.

The BWSSB on Friday took up work to fill the cave-in.

Vinay, a local, blamed BWSSB officials for negligence saying they dig up the road but do not fix it properly. “They do not even put up barricades or secure the work site. The BWSSB officials are only after making money, but don’t bother about people’s lives. My own car had met with an accident on this road recently. Many autorickshaws have toppled on this road earlier”.

As the road is narrow, the cave-in affected movement of traffic. Though several complaints were made, the officials concerned did not bother to act, said residents of the locality.

On Saturday, the BWSSB took up work to fix the cave-in, which was probably caused due to a leaking pipeline underneath the road surface.
