Of fathers, sons and daughters: Who won and who lost in the Assembly polls?

BENGALURU: There are some interesting facets to the Karnataka Assembly election this time. While family politics was evident in every major political party, there are instances of tickets being given to members of a single family from different parties — be it the father, son or daughter. Here, we list out family members who contested the election and their fate.

Janata Dal (Secular) candidate A Manju won from Arakalagud while his son, Dr Manthar Gowda, a Congress candidate, won from Madikeri. Both contested from different parties and won.

Former Chief Minister and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy won from Channapatna by a narrow margin, while his son Nikhil Kumarswamy lost against new face and Congress candidate Iqbal by a huge margin in Ramanagara. Nikhil’s mother Anitha Kumaraswamy, who represented the seat, had made way for him this time.

Congress candidate M Krishnappa contested from Vijayanagar constituency while his son Priya Krishna contested from Govindaraja Nagar and both were elected.

Former JD(S) president and sitting MLA G T Deve Gowda won the polls from Chamundeshwari constituency while his son G T Harish Gowda has won the Hunsur seat from JD(S).

Ramalinga Reddy and his daughter Soumya Reddy;  Shamanur Sivashankarappa and his son S S Mallikarjun.

The seniormost contestant in this election, 91-year-old Shamanur Sivashankarappa won from Davangere South Constituency and his son S S Mallikarjuna has won from Davangere North Constituency. Both contested from the Congress.

Congress candidate Ramalinga Reddy won from BTM Layout whereas his daughter Soumya Reddy won from Jayanagara in in Bengaluru by a razor thin margin of 160 votes.

Congress candidate K H Muniyappa won from Devanahalli constituency while his daughter Rupa Shashidhar won from KGF constituency from the same party.
