Nine arrested in Belagavi in alleged moral policing act

BELAGAVI:  The Belagavi police have arrested nine accused of the Muslim community youths, who, under the influence of ganja, assaulted a youth and his relative after locking them up in a shed in Kotekere, assuming that they were lovers.

The accused involved in the alleged moral policing act include Mommahad Inamadar (22), Atif Ahmed Sheikh (22), Mohammad Aman (27), Saif Ali Magdum (27), Umar Badegar (19), Ajan Kalakundri (19) and Ryan Rotawale (19).

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohan Jagdish told the media on Sunday that Sachin and Muskan were sitting in a park in Kotekere when group of youth attacked them. A case has been registered at the Market police station regarding the incident.

“The youth Sachin was assaulted in a small shed on Kotekere premises. The compound construction in Koratagere is not complete and some youths have made a narrow path and built a shed there. We will also write to the municipal corporation to construct a proper compound. There is a house adjacent to the shed. We will inquire with the owner. We will arrest the other accused after checking the CCTV footage”, the DCP added.
