NIA registers FIR in Mangaluru blast case, may question Shariq in hospital

BENGALURU: Hours after the state government officially handed over the Mangaluru cooker blast case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the central agency has filed an FIR naming Mohammed Shariq and the main accused.

The NIA is also likely to arrest Shariq and question him in the hospital itself after securing permission from the court.

Shariq is undergoing treatment at intensive care unit in Father Muller Medical College hospital Mangaluru.

Late on Thursday evening, the Additional Secretary to the Home Department stating that a case under the Explosives Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) have been registered at the Kankanady Town police station in connection with the cooker blast.

Since it is a “scheduled offence under Section 6 of the NIA Act, 2006, the matter is being submitted for further necessary action”, the letter read.
