HUBBALLI: The post-mortem report of Neha Hiremath, the 23-year-old daughter of Congress corporator Niranjan Hiremath, who was brutally murdered on her college campus last week, has revealed that she was stabbed 14 times, sources said.
Neha also sustained a stab wound to in the heart and a ruptured blood vessel in the neck region which led the profuse bleeding. These two major wounds led to her immediate death, the autopsy report says.
Meanwhile, her father Niranjan Hiremath alleged that an attempt was made locally to hush up the case and that a religious leader also tried to exert pressure. “Now the case has been handed over the the CID for which I am thankful to the government, but they should carry out a fair investigation. Even if my own family members are involved, they should be punished. The culprit should be given death penalty”, he added.
In an act of solidarity with Neha’s family, Muslim traders and businessmen in Hubballi and Dharwad. Traders downed their shutters at Shah Bazaar and Noorani Market from 10 am till 3 pm in Hubballi with ‘Justice to Neha’ posters on their doors. In Dharwad too, Muslim businessmen, under the aegis of the Anjuman-e-Islam, took out a silent procession carrying black flags from Anjuman College to the DC’s office. They also demanded strict punishment for the accused Fayaz and a special court for speedy trial in such cases.
The BJP and students’ groups too stage protests in different parts of the state including Hubballi, Bengaluru, Bagalkot, Belagavi, Ballari, Chikkodi, Ramanagara, Mysuru, Bidar, Bagaklot, Vijayapura, Ballari, Chikkamagalur, Chamarajanagar, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kalaburagi, Haver, Koppal, Karwar, Raichur, Tumakuru, Udupi and Yadgir.
