Muslim protester recites azan on stairs of Shivamogga deputy commissioner’s office

SHIVAMOGGA: A Muslim man recited the azan after climbing the stairs of the district deputy commissioner’s office building on March 17 during a protest. A video of the incident is now going viral on social media.

The incident has come to light after two days. It is said said that the man recited the azan to protest against former minister K S Eshwarappa’s remarks over ‘azan and Allah’. A video the man reciting the azan was capture on a mobile phone.

The Muslim community was protesting in front of the Shivamogga DC’s Office, shouting slogans against Eshwarappa and expressing their outrage. At that time, a man climbed the stairs of the DC’s office and recited the azan. When the police objected to the azan being recited there, a scuffle ensued between the police and the protesters for a while. The police warned the protesters not to recite the azan at the premises.

Meanwhile, another youth made a provocative statement. Objecting to Eshwarappa’s remarks, he asked, “Who is he to talk about azan? Today we recited azan here, and we will do the same at the Vidhana Soudha tomorrow”.

After the incident, Muslim leaders pacified the man who recited azan and the police sent back the protesters later.
