BENGALURU: Munawar Ahmad, one of the accused arrested in connection with the case related to raising pro-Pakistan slogans in the corridor of Vidhana Soudha during Congress celebrations to mark Syed Naseer Hussain’s Rajya Sabha poll victory, was staying in the house of an IAS officer on rent.

The accused Munawar had earlier stayed with his family in house No. 27 C on Jayamahal 1st Cross, one of the upscale localities of Bengaluru.

The JC Nagar police visited the house where Munawar stayed as it comes under the jurisdiction of the JC Nagar police station. After his arrest, the family vacated the house and shifted elsewhere.

After Congress won the Rajya Sabha election, the supporters of Congress MP-elect Syed Naseer Hussain — Mohammed Shafi Nashipudi from Byadagi, Munawar Ahmed from RT Nagar and Mohammad Iltaz from Delhi — reportedly raised ‘Pakistan zindabad’ slogans. Among the three, Nashipudi and Munawar are friends, while Muhammad Iltaz is not known to the two. The police have now decided to send the mobile phones of the arrested three to the forensic science laboratory to retrieve details.

The Vidhana Soudha police have taken the accused Nashipudi into custody while the other two, Munawar and Iltaz, have been sent to judicial custody, as ordered by the 39th ACCM Court. The police are questioning the accused regarding the motive behind raising the pro-Pakistan slogans, whether they had anyone supporting them at that time, and whether it was a coincidence or a premeditated act among other factors.
