Multi-axle truck splits into two, falls off Bengaluru-Mysuru highway; driver rescued

RAMANAGARA: A multi-axle truck fell off the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway on to the service road below after suffering a tyre burst, on Friday morning. The truck was carrying cement bags from Bengaluru to Mysuru.

Due to the impact of the tyre blast, the good compartment fell on the service road while the driver’s compartment fell into a ditch below a culvert, trapping the driver under it. The driver Subbaiah Naidu sustained serious injuries in the leg.

The Channapatna Rural police and some local got a couple of excavators and managed to rescue the truck driver. The police then shifted him to hospital.

The incident occurred near Kunturdoddi in Channapatna taluk. A case has been registered in this regard at the Channapatna Rural police station.

Meanwhile, the Ramanagara police have arrested the driver of a school bus for driving in the wrong lane of the expressway. The incident occurred in June last year but came to light only now after after dashcam footage of the bus went viral on social media.

The bus, driven by Srinivas, was carrying 12 students of the prestigious educational institution. The driver was driving in the wrong carriageway on the Kumbalgod flyover along the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.
