CHIKKAMAGALURU: A massive traffic jam choked Charmadi Ghat at least for an hour after a 16-wheeler truck broke down on Monday.
A cement-laden truck going from Hubballi to Mangaluru broke down at the 10th curve of Charmadi Ghat around 8:30 am. As the truck stopped at a sharp bend on the Ghat, other vehicles were struggling to move ahead.
There is a ban on movement of heavy vehicles on Charmadi Ghat connecting Chikkamagaluru-Mangaluru. However, questions are being raised as to how the truck driver entered the road though the police were present at the Kottigehara checkpoint. Locals alleged that due to the negligence of the police, police, because of their negligence, hundreds of motorists had to suffer since morning.
