Mother-in-law is woman head of family, Gruha Lakshmi scheme benefit should go to her: Hebbalkar

BELAGAVI: Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Laxmi Hebbalkar, on Tuesday said that some conditions will applicable to the Gruha Lakshmi scheme.

Speaking at a joint press conference along with PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi on the implementation of the Congress guarantees at Suvarna Soudha here, she said the Gruha Lakshmi scheme will be implemented in a simple manner. “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called a meeting of departmental ministers and officials on Wednesday. A meeting of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) and Revenue department officials will also be held with WCD department”, she said.

Laxmi Hebbalkar said that, “Traditionally, the mother-in-law is considered the most senior in a household. So, it is the our priority to give the benefit of the scheme to the mother-in-law”.

Public Works Minister Satish Jarkholi too said the mother-in-law is considered the senior in a household. “We will ask the mother-in-law who should get the benefit of the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme. If she says to give it to her daughter-in-law, then will give it to her. The first priority will be given to mother-in-law. It should be given in written form. Conditions will apply when deciding who will be the beneficiary. If the mother-in-law agrees voluntarily to give the benefit to her daughter-in-law, then there will be no issues”.
