BENGALURU: After a motorist sat in the middle of Old Airport Road protesting against VIP culture, Infosys founder and investor T V Mohandas Pai has appealed to Chief Minister-designate D K Shivakumar to look into the issue of stopping traffic for long to allow for VIP movement.

On Old Airport Road, the traffic police had reportedly blocked traffic for 30 minutes saying the Governor was coming. That road already had choking traffic due to ongoing underpass construction work.

Amid this, traffic was stopped for some time, and a motorist sat in the middle of the road expressing severe anger. He claimed he had to urgently take his pregnant wife to the hospital, but the police did not allow him. Following this incident, there is huge outrage against Bengaluru traffic police.

However, the traffic police said “Regarding the viral incident, enquiry was done and it was found that the concerned person was travelling alone. We want to reiterate that in any situation during road travel priority is always given to ambulances and medical emergency cases’.

Referring to the issue, businessman Mohandas Pai tweeted, requesting that the new Chief Minister D K Shivakumar should look into such traffic stoppages for VIP movement. He said police stop traffic for longer than necessary and that Bengaluru does not need such VIP culture.

Because of this, police behave very rudely with citizens and push them around. He lashed out saying people are not slaves, they are citizens. He added that he was insulted by an SP-rank officer in front of Raj Bhavan due to this VIP movement, and said such bad, humiliating culture should change, Pai said.
