BENGALURU: While Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has taken a up a campaign to clean the city roads and footpaths and has started a footpath clearance drive, the same footpaths have been turned into dumping grounds by contractors doing work.
Business leader and investor Mohandas Pai has expressed his displeasure about this in a post on his X account. In it, he posted a photo of newly laid tar and the debris left behind right on the footpath, and wrote, “@GBAChiefComm @GBA_office please see. Road relaid, all debris and muck on footpath. Ali Asker Road. Bad practice by Contractor. Please ask them to clean up, give clean road and footpath. Same thing all over city. Please change specs “.

It’s not just this one place — wherever work is being done, they are turning the road and footpath into dumping spots in the same way. Not just Ali Askar Road, on Link Road in Malleswaram, work to build a new drain was being done on one side, and the drain was being cleaned on the other side. But debris has been left on both sides of the road.
Citizens have also expressed strong anger over this, saying that if half the road is filled with garbage, mud, and stones like this, it obstructs vehicle movement. Pedestrians are also unable to walk, they pointed out and demanded that debris should be cleared.
