Miraculous escape for road users as old iron girder collapses amidst busy traffic in Hubballi

HUBBALLI: A major accident could have occurred on the NH-63 main road which connects Hubballi and Gadag, when a huge iron girder suddenly collapsed amidst moving traffic a fee days ago. Luckily, no one was hurt in the incident.

The huge iron girder had been erected to prevent movement of tall vehicles under a bridge. Two days ago, it suddenly collapsed due to rusting near the Hubballi railway station on the main road connecting Hubballi and Gadag, a highly congested area.

The incident occurred when when buses, cars and two-wheelers were moving at that spot and there was a possibility of a major disaster if the rusted iron pillar had fallen on a moving bus or car. The incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera.

A similar incident had occurred three months ago. However, the railway officials have not bothered to fix the issue, leading to a recurrence of the incident.
