CHIKKAMAGLURU: A minor girl committed suicide by consuming pesticide over a failed love affair at Jogikumbri village in Kalasa taluk on Saturday evening.

The deceased, aged 17, was a student of Kalasa Pre-University College. She was reportedly in love with a youth from S K Megal village. When she realised that he had cheated on her, she consumed pesticide at home on January 10 after returning from college and informed her parent.

The parents rushed her to the Kalasa taluk hospital for treatment and then shifted her to A J Hospital in Mangaluru for the further treatment. But the girl died on Saturday evening after a battle for four days.

A death note was found in her room in which she said, “I loved him, and I took this decision because of trouble between us”. An FIR has been registered against Nitesh in Kudremukh police station.

Initially, the Kudremukh police refused to accept the complaint. Only after the Chikkamagaluru SP intervened in the case, did they register the complaint. The girl’s parents have now expressed their ire at the Kuduremukh police for not arresting the youth even after the FIR was registered.
