Minister Boseraju performs special puja at Talacauvery to appease rain gods

MADIKERI: With the monsoon playing truant, water shortage worries have already risen in the Cauvery basin region. Some other districts in central and northern parts of the state are already reeling under drought-like conditions and facing shortage of drinking water. Farmers are worried about the delayed monsoon and already, there is 61 per cent less rainfall than normal.

Minister of Minor Irrigation and Science and Technology, N S Boseraju, performed special puja at Talacauvery, the birthplace of River Cauvery, to appease the rain gods. He first visited Bhagamandala and, after seeking blessing, proceeded to Talacauvery.

The minister performed Mahaganapati, Agastyeshwar puja and performed Sankalpa puja and kumkumarchana for the welfare of the state.

Madikeri MLA Manthar Gowda, Deputy Commissioner Venkataraju, District Superintendent of Police K Ramarajan, zilla panchayat CEO Dr Akash and additional deputy commissioner Dr Nanjundegowda were present on the occasion.

Speaking to mediapersons, Minister Boseraju said, “I visited Talacauvery for the first time, had darshana of Goddess Cauvery. I wish that there should no natural calamities or tragedies. I offered prayer for the welfare of the people and so that there is rain for the benefit of farmers, and for prosperity”.
