CHIKKAMAGALUR: Two staffers of the power utility Mescom worked with just a torchlight and a mobile flashlight to restore power supply to Jayapura village and Sringeri taluk late on Tuesday night amid a slight drizzle.

Around 5 pm on Tuesday, a tree fell on a power line due to strong winds, snapping power supply to Jayapura village in Koppa taluk and also to parts of Sringeri taluk, leaving the residents of the villages with the prospect of spending the night without electricity.

The Mescom staff went around looking for where the power line had snapped and finally, after four hours, located the spot around 11 pm. Two of the staffers climbed the electricity pole and restored the connection while another colleague shone a torch from below.

The residents of Jayapura and Sringeri have expressed appreciation of the prompt action of the Mescom staffers.
