The state legislature will meet for the winter session at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha from December 19.

BELAGAVI: Just when the heat over the border row between Karnataka and Maharashtra seems to be subsiding, the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES), which has been in the forefront of the dispute, but has slowly been losing its political relevance, is planning to organise a Maha Melava (Marathi convention) on December 19 when the when the state legislature convenes at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha here for the winter session.

The MES plans to hold the Maha Melava on the opening day of the legislature session at the Vaccine Depot in Tilakawadi and has sought permission from the city police commissioner, the Belagavi City Corporation and the district deputy commissioner.

In its letter to the police chief and the DC, the MES has stated that ‘many leaders from Maharashtra may attend and address the meeting’ and sought that ‘required arrangements should be made’.

The MES had lost miserably in the last Assembly election and also in the civic body polls.
