YADGIR: The priest of the Bhagyavanti Math in Sakhrayanaik Tanda has been arrested over allegations of sexual assault on a minor girl. The mathis located in a forest area of Sakhrayanaik Tanda in Yadgir taluk.
Based on specific information given by the minor girl’s mother, District Child Institutional Protection Officer Govind Tharod and police visited the math and rescued the minor girl. Annappa, the priest of Bhagyavanti Mutt, was also arrested.
As per the complaint filed by the girl’s mother, the priest touched the 16-year-old minor with sexual intent and put his hand on her shoulder. The victim described the priest Annappa’s heinous act during counselling.
Nagamma Hiremath, supervisor of the Women and Child Development Department, filed a complaint at the women’s police station in Yadgir based on which a POCSO case has been registered against the mutt priest and he has been arrested.
