BENGALURU: A married woman committed suicide at Andrahalli on Sunday over alleged family dispute. The deceased was identified as Manasa. The incident occurred in Byadarahalli police station limits.

Manasa was married to Dilip alias Chirag six years ago and the couple have a five-year-old daughter.

Srinivas, the father of deceased, said, “I came to know that something had happened around 4:30 pm on Sunday. When I went to see her, she was lying on the bed. Only her husband was at home. He had taken all her belongings, gold jewellery, including her mangalsutra, and sold them. He had borrowed a lot of loans. He would often assault her and had even thrown her out of the house two years ago. She was a brave girl”.

Manasa’s aunt Lakshmi Narasamma said, “I got to know Manasa’s suicide over the phone, but I couldn’t believe it. When I saw her husband coming out of the house with a smile, I thought, nothing was wrong. When I went inside, I found the lifeless body of my niece lying on the floor. She was a brave girl, and I couldn’t believe she would commit suicide. Her husband Dilip had been torturing her. Two years ago, he had thrown her out of the house. She had called my son on video call before her death wanting to tell me something, but then, she didn’t reveal anything. They were in love and got married. We got them married at the temple after coming to know about their relationship”.

Manasa’s uncle Hanumantharay’s alleged, ‘Dilip hasn’t been going to work. Recently, my brother got him a job, but he has taken a lot of loans. He had an illicit relationship with another woman, who was pressuring Manasa for money. This led to an argument between the husband and wife. Distressed by this, Manasa committed suicide yesterday by hanging herself in her husband’s house. The husband found her body when he came home”.
