Mangaluru police raids SDPI and PFI activists residents on Thursday

MANGALURU: The Mangaluru city police have raided the houses of activists and leaders of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and the banned Popular Front of India on Thursday.

The raids were conducted at about seven locations in Panambur, Suratakal, Ullal and Mangaluru suburban areas. Five people were arrested after the search operation. A case has been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, IPC Section 121 and other sections.

The Suratkal police also raided the house of Abubakar Kulai, the district president of SDPI, but he was not at home at that time. Abubakar is a resident of Kulai in Mangaluru.

The raids were conducted on the directives of City Commissioner of Police N Shashikumar on the ground that the SDPI and banned PFI leaders had indulged in alleged unlawful activities even after its ban.

Dharmendra, state general secretary, Hindu Mahasabha, noted that the government has banned the PFI and affiliated organisations, but said that is not enough. “The PFI and other associated unlawful outfits are banned just on paper, not in reality. They are still active in the shadows, and planning their next move”, he claimed.

He further said the banned organisations may be emerge in another name. The Hindu Mahasabha has warned that the government and police department should keep an eye on those who are active in such organisations and monitor their sources of funds. “The government should tackle the menace by dislodging it from its roots; otherwise, they will harm the country. The government should wake up and take stern action”, Dharmendra said.

It may be noted that after the Union government announced a ban on the Popular Front of India, the organisations issued an open threat to the RSS that they will come back in Dakshina Kannada.
