MANGALURU: The Mangaluru city police, under the guidance of the Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal, on Wednesday morning conducted a surprise raid on the Mangaluru city jail barracks.

According to the Police Commissioner, the operation, which began at 4 am, involved two DCPs, three ACPs, 15 PIs, and around 150 personnel. Multiple teams were formed to cover all the blocks of the jail simultaneously, with the secrecy of the raid maintained until the last moment to ensure its effectiveness.

During the search, 25 mobile phones, one bluetooth device, five earphones, one pen drive, five mobile chargers, one pair of scissors, three cables, and multiple packets of ganja and other drugs were seized by the police. The operation underscores the department’s ongoing commitment to maintaining security and preventing illegal activities within the jail, the police chief said.

Further investigation is under way to determine how these items were brought into the jail. (ANI)
