BENGALURU: An accused in the attempted murder of history-sheeter Manu was shot in the leg by Jigani Plice Inspector Manjunath in Mayasandra near Anekal on Monday morning. The police fired at Bestamanahalli Lokesh aka Loki, when he was returning to his village.

The police had received a tip-off that Lokesh would be returning to his village as he had been absconding for the past few days. Accordingly, a team led by Inspector Manjunath had laid a trap for him. The police caught him on an under-construction highway near Mayasandra. Despite the police suggesting to Lokesh to surrender, he tried to attack police personnel Chennebasava when they tried to apprehend him. Inspector Manjunath then shot Lokesh in the leg in self-defence.

Bengaluru Rural Additional SP Nagesh Kumar stated that a team was sent to arrest Lokesh, an accused in the Jigani murder attempt case, based on reliable information. When the team tried to arrest him, Lokesh attacked them and attempted to escape. Inspector Manjunath shot Lokesh in the leg in self-defence and Lokesh was taken into custody.

Lokesh has several cases against him, including murder and attempted murder. He is also the main accused in the attempted murder on history-sheeter Manu. Four teams have been formed to track down the other accused.
