BELAGAVI: A youth, who was allegedly forcing a girl to agree to a relationship, was brutally murdered by her father with a knife at Karimani village in Savadatti taluk of Belagavi district. The youth’s brother, who was also stabbed, died later in hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Mayappa Halegodi (22) and Yallappa Halegodi (17) of Karimani village. The accused is Fakirappa Bhamvihal (50) of Dundanakoppa village in Savadatti taluk.
Mayappa Halegodi had fallen in love with the accused”s daughter. Angered by this, Fakirappa went to Karimani village to warn him. Fakirappa and Mayappa started quarrelling when they came across each other. The argument soon escalated and ended in murder. Fakirappa stabbed Mayappa with a knife in the heat of the moment. He also stabbed his brother Yellappa, who came to Mayappa’s rescue.
Mayappa died on the spot due to excessive bleeding while Yellappa died in hospital without responding to the treatment. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Murgod police station and the accused has been arrested.
