Man kidnapped, beaten with iron rods for questioning WhatsApp post with Pak symbols

VIJAYAPURA: A man was kidnapped and brutally assaulted by four people for questioning one of them about a WhatsApp message showing a green lion with a Pakistan symbol on it. The incident occurred near Honawad in Tikota town on Friday.

Umesh was assaulted with iron rods and swords.

Pailwan Umesh Lakshman Haragi of Honawad had raised questions about a WhatsApp message from Afzal Khan Mujawar of Jatta taluk which showed a green lion with Pakistan symbols on it. Angered by this, Afzal Khan and three of his associates kidnapped Umesh, badly beat him up with iron rods and fled.

“We had gone to a fair and were returning when four people who came in a four-wheeler, dragged me in and hit me on the head. They then took me to a desolate place and assaulted me with iron rods and swords and even pointed a firearm at me. Afzal Khan even threatened to eliminate me and target my family if I lodged a complaint”, Umesh said.

Afzal Khan Mujawar had posted a WhatsApp message with a green lion and Pakistan symbols on it.

The injured Umesh Haragi is undergoing treatment at the district hospital here. The Tikota police have registered a case and are investigating.
