YADGIR: Four people, who had come to sort out a domestic dispute between a couple, were locked up in a house, doused in petrol and set on fire by the husband at Chaya Colony in Narayanapura of Hunasagi taluk on Wednesday. While one person died, the condition of the three others is critical.
The deceased has been identified as Nagappa while Sidramappa, Muthappa and Sharanappa have been admitted to Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences. While two of them are Muddebihal, the other two are from Sarur.
The accused Sharanappa is married to Huligemma, but the couple had a dispute and Huligemma was living separately for the last 14 months. Huligemma works in the mechanical division of KSRTC and had refused to agree to a divorce.
On Wednesday, Sharanappa threw petrol on Huligemma’s father and three others, who had come to sort out the couple’s dispute, set them on fire and locked them up.
“Sharanappa had called Huligemma’s father, brothers and some other relatives to his house to sort out the issue. Suddenly, he threw petrol, set fire and locked the house. Nagappa died in the incident and the three others have been hospitalised. Sharanappa has been arrested and is being questioned. He has committed the act intentionally,” Yadgir Superintendent of Police Dr C B Vedamurthy said.
A case has been registered at Narayanapura and further investigations are on.
