BENGALURU: The state government has cut the number of days eggs will be given to government schoolchildren with their midday meal. As of last academic year, eggs are given twice a week, but henceforth, according to the order issued by the Education Department, eggs will be given only once a week.

During the BJP government, it was decided to give eggs two days in a week. Children who did not want eggs were given bananas and peanut chikkies. But now the government has cut down the supply eggs. It has already been 25 days since schools started and the eggs have not been given to schools yet.

Following the order of the Department of School Education and Literacy, questions are being raised whether the government is facing financial difficulties  in giving eggs to schoolchildren at least two days a week. There is no clarification from the government on why egg supply has been cut.

Former HD Kumaraswamy criticised the government’s decision and said, Now the government has issued an order to cut the distribution of eggs in government schools. The government will not give that either in the coming days”.
