MANGALURU: A Kerala-based jeweller was robbed of gold worth Rs 20 lakh and cash by a gang on the Baikampady highway near Surathkal by blocking his car early on Monday morning.

The gang came in two Innovas and and blocked jeweller Vikas’ Maruti Swift car when he and his family were returning after attending a wedding ceremony in Sangli, Maharashtra. While coming to Mangaluru from Udupi, the gang intercepted them at Baikampady, made Vikas get down, and hijacked the car.

The gang threatened Vikas’s wife and son who were in the car, dropped both of them out of the car near Kuloor, and took the car away. The robbers fled with gold and cash worth an estimated Rs 20 lakh. The scene of robbery was captured on CCTV camera and the Panambur police have taken up investigation.

In the CCTV footage, the gang can be seen arriving in three cars and intercepting the businessman’s car. One Innova car came in front of the car being driven by Vikas and blocked it. Then the robbers made Vikas get out of the car and drove it themselves. Later, the police brought Vikas to the robbery site along with his wife for spot inspection.
