BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Friday gave the green signal to the padayatra by BJP-JDS by issuing an interim order directing the government to allow the event. The week long padayatra is set to commence from August 3

The court has also ordered the police to provide security for the padayatra. This comes after Home Minister G Parameshwara claimed that the government had not given official permission for the padayatra. Following this, BJP leader P Rajeev had filed a petition in the High Court seeking directions to the government to grant permission for the padayatra.

The petition was heard by Justice Chandan Goudar, who directed the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendents of Police to provide security in the areas where the padayatra will pass through.

The state BJP leadership will launch the week-long padayatra as part of its protest against the alleged MUDA site allotment and Maharshi Valmiki ST Development Corporation multi-crore scams of the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government.

The padyatra will start on August 3 at 8.30 am from Kempamma temple in Kengeri. Former CM B S Yediyurappa, Union ministers H D Kumaraswamy and Prahlad Joshi will flag off the padyatra.

The padyatra will cover a total distance of 224 km in 7 days, covering 20 km every day. They will cover 10 km in the morning and 10 km post lunch. Leaders from all the 24 Assembly constituencies will participate in the padyatra, with 8-10 leaders and activists from each constituency joining every day.
