KALABURAGI: The home district of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge witnessed two back-to-back brutal murders of BJP leaders within a span of 24 hours.

While BJP leader Mahantappa was murdered was brutally hacked to death in Aland, Kalaburagi BJP MP Dr Umesh Jadhav’s aide was Girish Chakra was murdered by known people in Saganur village in Afzalpur taluk even before Mahantappa’s final rites were conducted.

The accused felicitated Girish before murdering him.

It is suspected that history-sheeter Sachin and his gang are behind what is being considered as a hit job on Girish. Sachin was jailed in a murder case and is out on bail. The police are said to have clues that he struck a deal with one Prakash for Rs 40 lakh to eliminate Girish.

As per the plan, Sachin and his associates felicitated Girish on his nomination as director of the Doordarshan Seva Kendra. Later, they invited him to join them for dinner at an open field close by where they threw chilli powder in his eyes and attacked him with sharp weapons.

Lok Sabha member Umesh Jadhav visited the mortuary where the autopsy was conducted and said Girish was like a son to him. He also demanded harsh punishment for the culprits. The deceased’s brother Sadashiv said some people could not tolerate Girish’s rise in politics and thus gave supari to Sachin to eliminate him.

The police have registered a case and taken up further investigation.
