KALABURAGI: The Kalaburagi airport on Monday received a bomb threat by email, but it was declared a hoax after a two-hour search by the bomb disposal and dog squads.

A flight which had arrived from Bengaluru at 9.30 am was parked some distance away from the runway as the search was in progress. The passengers, including Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda, had to wait for about 45 minutes inside the aircraft before they could disembark.

Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda was delayed for a meeting.

Apart from searching the entire airport premises, the security personnel also checked the baggage of all the passengers, leading to tense moments. Speaking about the incident, Krishna Byregowda said, “I got delayed for a meeting, otherwise, there were no problems. The authorities conducted a routine check”.

The police have now launched an investigation into the hoax email and are on the lookout for the sender.
