BENGALURU: The popular Kadalekai Parishe (Groundnut Festival) 2024 has begun near Dodda Ganapati and Dodda Basavanna temple in Basavanagudi, Bengaluru. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar inaugurated the fair.

The festival is jointly organised by the BBMP and the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department. This year, the BBMP has stalls exempted from paying tax, and around 4,000 to 5,000 stalls have been set up. The fair grounds have been decorated with lights, and a special procession was held at the Kempambudhi Lake.

Traders from various places, including Chintamani, Magadi, Kolar, Tumakuru, Ramanagara, Chitradurga and even Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have come to participate in the fair.

Due to the low rainfall this year, the price of groundnuts has increased, with the price of 1 kg ranging from Rs 50 to Rs. 70. The fair is expected to attract lakhs of visitors. A village-themed park has also been set up near the Dodda Basavanna Temple.

It is a significant festival in Bengaluru, and the BBMP and the Muzrai Department have made elaborate arrangements to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
