TUMAKURU: A jewellery store owner, who was absconding after duping several people of about Rs 30 crore after promising huge returns, has been arrested by the police. His wife too has been arrested and the accused were identified as Shivananda Murthy, owner of Akash Jewellery, and Annapoorna.
Shivananda Murthy had allegedly cheated several people in Tumakuru, Bengaluru, Davanagere, Chitradurga and other parts, offering higher interest rates for the deposits and fled along with his family. Hundreds of people had filed complaints at the Tumakuru town police station.
The husband-wife duo was arrested by the Tumakuru town police from Bengaluru. Further investigation is under way.
