JD(S) leader HD Revanna, arrested in kidnapping case, released from jail on conditional bail

Holenarsipur MLA H D Revanna was released from jail on Tuesday on conditional bail.

BENGALURU: Holenarsipur JD(S) MLA H D Revanna, who was arrested in an alleged kidnapping case registered at KR Nagar in Mysuru, was on Tuesday released from the central prison at Parappana Agrahara here after completing all the bail formalities. Revanna had been granted conditional bail by a special court for elected representatives on Monday evening.

A huge crowd of supporters had gathered outside Deve Gowda’s residence.

Revanna’s lawyers completed the bail formalities before the 17nd ACMM court, as directed by the special court, on Monday evening. As per the bail conditions, Revanna had to furnish a personal bond of Rs 5 lakh and produce two individual sureties. He also cannot travel to KR Nagar.

Former CM H D Kumaraswamy also arrived at Deve Gowda’s residence to receive Revanna.

Soon after his release from jail, Revanna headed straight to the residence of his father and former PM H D Deve Gowda where he sought blessings from the JD(S) patriarch and his mother Chennamma. He received a warm welcome from his associates and family members.

Revanna did not speak to the media or party workers. His brother and former CM H D Kumaraswamy was also at Deve Gowda’s residence and the family was closeted in a discussion for some time. Revanna later left for his house and visited a temple enroute.

The road in front of Deve Gowda’s house was barricaded ahead of Revanna’s arrival.

Revanna was booked under IPC Sections 364A (kidnapping for ransom), 365 (kidnapping with intent to cause harm), and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. He was arrested on May 4 by the SIT from the residence of his father H D Deve Gowda in Padmanabhanagar after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a court. After his arrest, the special court for elected representatives had sent him to judicial custody till May 14.

H D Revanna and his son, Prajwal Revanna, are facing a probe by an SIT, constituted by the Karnataka government over allegations of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation against the duo following a complaint by a woman who worked in their household.

The FIR, registered by the KR Nagar police, lists Revanna as accused number one and another man, identified as Satish Babanna, as accused number two.
