BENGALURU: Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Saturday said that the inauguration of the new Parliament building in Delhi should not be politicised.

Speaking to media persons at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) en route Delhi, to take part in the event, Deve Gowda said the new Parliament building has not been built by any political party.

“The present Parliament building, which was constructed by the British has a seating capacity of only 565 members. Keeping in view the growing population, the number of Parliament members will rise to 900 in the coming days. Keeping this in mind, a new Parliament building has been constructed”, he said.

The new Parliament building is all set for inauguration on Sunday.

“I will be participating in the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building. That magnificent building was built with the tax money of the people of the country. It belongs to the country. It is not BJP or RSS office,” Deve Gowda added.

Responding to the Congress raising questions about Deve Gowda’s participation in the inauguration, former CM and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy said, “We are not slaves of the Congress and we will take our own decision. Why do we need to follow Congress?”
