IMD issues yellow alert across K’taka as Cyclone Mandous set to hit coast

BENGALURU: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Karnataka for the next five days in view of Cyclone Mandous making landfall at Puducherry.

Due to the low pressure area in the southwest Bay of Bengal and the associated cyclonic circulation, it will rain in southern-interior Karnataka, including the coast. The weather department has predicted that there is a high possibility of rain in a few parts of the south-interior Karnataka in the next 24 hours. Heavy rain is also predicted in the next 48 hours in Chikkaballapur, Kolar and Ramanagara districts. There are high chances of fog in some places.

Cyclone Mandous has made landfall near Chennai.

Cyclone Mandous has developed due to the low pressure area in the southwest Bay of Bengal and is predicted to make landfall near Puducherry. The IMD has warned Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and coastal Karnataka that rain will intensify in the state over the next four days.
